A good box-set to buy
I haven't bought a box-set since The Wire about four years ago, but I recently got The Story of Film by Mark Cousins. It cost about 35 or 40 euro and has 5 DVDs in it. I am only about two hours in, but, man, it is great. Computer says 'Yes'.

Watched it a couple of months ago on More4. Very interesting especially on world cinema. Makes a change from the American Centric stuff you normally see.

have to say I was given a martin scorcese films box set which is just epic and well worth it. I can't remember them all here but each one's a cracker.

Not sure how much it costs but if there is one box set you have to have it's The Sopranos.

that sopranos box set, set me back €80. It's basically 90 great films for €80. The Sopranos is without doubt the greatest television show of all-time

Rowan, I used to say that too, but then The Wire came along. Have you watched that yet?

And while I'm here again - The Story of Film box-set is consistently brilliant, and I'm half-way through it now. Worth every cent.

box set of family guy is a bit of a laugh. no idea how much 't costs tho'.

skennedy, i've bought the wire box set, but have yet to watch it. it will be started once i finish reading all of raymond chandler's books. still, nothing can really top the sopranos, surely! i mean, it's verging on perfection... like the episode where pauly and chris get lost in the woods, or the last two episodes in the first season, or the one where tony takes the lithium and imagines the girl from italy, or........ i could go on all night

Rowan, I loved Tony and the boys to bits; but The Wire is better. Get through the first three episodes - and bang! - you're addicted. And what a drug!

We're living through a golden age of television shows.

Breaking Bad is fantastic. It goes through lulls but they're just setting you up for a big pay off.

Also, often forgotten on these lists, is Band of Brothers.....which I'm just after realising is ten years old now....jaysus.

Arrested Development is brilliant if you looking for comedy.

Breaking Bad is my next box set fo'def.
 From : hydra Posted : 24/05/12 at 16:38
The Wire, Arrested Development, Mad Men in that order.
 From : davidlynch Posted : 25/05/12 at 01:08
The wire is very good but series four turns into Grange Hill.

The Sopranos on the other hand gets better with each episode and as someone said its like 80 really good films. A masterpiece.

By the way S Kennedy, they had that mark cousins boxset in Tower the other day - for 79.99...
 From : skennedy Posted : 25/05/12 at 09:39
DavyL, Tower tend to be expensive. I bought that boxset online a few weeks ago for about 40 euro. I'm still loving it and learning lots.

Excellent shout on Arrested Development. Great series.

And Series One of Flight of the Conchords is brilliant too. (Series Two was weak.)
