Roy Hodgson???
|
Are they mad? Nice man and all that. But jesus, he can't handle pressure one bit. Disastrous spell at Liverpool, disastrous spell at Inter and again at Udinese and Blackburn.
His international reign at Switzerland wasn't bad, qualified for WC94, reaching the last 16. But his time at UAE was another nightmere and at Finland he had the lowest win-ratio of any of their past 6 managers and left without qualifying for anything...
Konchesky will no doubt make the squad

| I think Hodgson was hard done by at Liverpool. If he had been given the 100 million to spend that Kenny did I am sure he would have spent it alot wiser.Plus at Liverpool the fans were never on his side from day one and have been shiting on about King Kenny.Look at Liverpool now..they are worse off than when Hodgson was over them.Yeah they won a Carling cup but that just barely covers over the problems that club has. What has Harry Redknapp done that qualifies him better than Hodgson? He is the media and fans favourite but he is over rated.Look at how shit Tottenham have been since Christmas. You can blame the media attention on that slump but if he was a good manager he would have helped his team deal with that slump much better. He got Southampton relegated. He showed Portsmouth twice just how loyal a person he really is by walking out on them.He talks about other teams players all the time and how he likes such and such a player.Last but not least his son is a gobshite.

redknapp is a far better Manager than Hodgson,he took over spurs in last place and has transformed them into a top four outfit playing attractive football. He done great work at West Ham giving a whole batch of young players like the two coles, lampard johnson etc a start and also won the FA cup at portsmouth.
Hodgson is an average Manager who has done ok at smaller clubs but very little at some of the bigger clubs, he would be probably better as a Manager of a Country like Ireland in euro 2012 with very little ambition than England who have hopes of winning the tournament.
He signed meirless for Liverpool who is a good player but his other signings were poor Konchesky and Poulsen were a waste of space while joe cole on a bosman with huge wages was a total disaster.
He has a useful squad of players for england in euro 2012,certainly far better than the ireland squad, whether he can make the most of them is hard to say,my guess is he will be gone within 18 months if he takes up the job on a full time basis.

Hodgson`s main problem is already the media are against the idea of him being manager. If you don`t have the media on your side managing England then it makes the job more difficult. You seem to ignore the fact Hodgson did a great job at Fulham and took them to the highest places they have ever held in the Premier league. He also took them to a Europa cup final. He took Inter to a Uefa final. He also won the LMA manager of the year in 2010.Liverpool fucked up his reputation. He has done a great job with WBA and he took them from relegation zone to safety..he replaced Roberto Di Matteo who was sacked. Now everybody is saying how great a job Di Matteo is doing at Chelsea and he should get the job...every manager goes through bad spells and Hodgson was no different. Harry did a good job at Tottenham but he has been given the financial resources to do so.He has been called a wheeler dealer...try doing that at International level when you can`t buy your team. It doesn`t matter who gets the English job because its a poisoned chalice.Whoever gets it will be ruined by the media. The players are not as good as the English media likes to think.Think of all the drama about the captaincy and the division there is in that team.If the players don`t back Hodgson then he will have no hope. The English contingent at Chelsea showed what type of players they are with the treatment of Villas Boas....

A good job at fullham a mid table outfit -England expect to be challenging for tournaments and in Hodgson they have a manager with no ambition. What about at Blackburn where he was poor despite having jack walkers money or Udinese, add in Liverpool and he is an average manager - not one to be trusted to take a Country with big hopes to succeess.
He is another ron greenwood/steve mclaren.
Redknapp took over spurs in october bottom of the league and before the next transfer window they were a different team - he has much more in his locker than wheeling and dealing, im sure spurs fans are delighted he is staying.
harry isnt in the mourinho/ferguson league of top managers but he is a damn sight better than Hodgson and if they wanted an English Manager which it seems they did , he was the obvious choice.
england should come out of their group but probably wont go any further under hodgson and he will come unstuck in the w cup qualafying with a lack of ambition.

It is fascinating. What the fuck happened that ruled Harry out? It is obvious that they are going for the 'safe' option.
In truth, Hodgson might just have what it takes to operate at international level. The pressure is less intense, There is more time to think (though less on the training ground). But I wouldn't bet against him getting the best out of the current crop of players (though I'm not sure that Steven Gerrard will welcome the appointment!)
Either way, the next two months are going to be all the more entertaining as a result!

Haha - who gives a fuck!!! Let them appoint Uncle Woy! But, Hodgson is one of only 3 managers in something like 18 years to not have been sacked by Inter (and theyve had 17 managers in 18 years). He did a cracking job with Fulham, you cant deny that. Midtable outfit yes, but still a good job. Look at Liverpool - midtable now. He never stood a chance at Liverpool - fans didnt want him. Joe Cole shouldnt have been a disaster and has gone on to show at Lille that hes still not a bad player. Won titles in Sweden (6 i think) and a cup or 2, Denmark title and cup - got Inter & Fulham to Euro cup finals. H edid well with Finland I thought, almost qualified for Euro champs - dunno what year. I'm glad they are going for him over Harry - Harry was to fucking smug about it - thought the job was his and wouldnt comment on it when it became available and his name was linked with it by everybody. Hes no problem commenting on other clubs players to try and unsettle them when he wants to buy them. And yes, his son's a gobshite.

| fran.martin you obviously have an agenda against Liverpool and it's clear the you hate the club and its supporters. Haters are going to hate. But I wouldn't say 'Liverpool fucked his reputation'. He did a pretty good job doing that by himself. He was signed to steady the ship at Liverpool and he failed to do that. He took them to the relegation zone, got them kicked out of the Carling Cup by Northampton Town. Say what you like about Dalglish, he has Liverpool playing more attractive football and he has won a cup and has them in the FA Cup final. The league position is not good enough but I think it will improve and there is nothing to say that it would be any better under Hodgson. Hodgson was backed by the media to manage Liverpool and it was an ill considered move. The fans didn't want him but they gave him a chance but he was a disaster. When they signed Dalglish he raised them from the relegation zone. Hodgson got an ovation when he returned to Anfield with WBA last week so there is no disrespect from the supporters, he just wasn't right for the club. He was not the first manager to be sacked from a job mid-season and he certainly won't be the last. Why not have a dig at Blackburn supporters who wanted him sacked after his disasterous tenure there. Did they 'fuck' his reputation?

he could have used Fernando Torres bothering his arse to play too. The big problem is the way the meeja have already got their knives sharpened for him, and the way certain players (see Neville, P) reacted on Twitter. Still it'll make for entertainment!

| He's a likeable guy who is likely to be fried publicly if a team of under-achievers don't do well. Could be an appalling form of twisted entertainment.

| No agenda against Liverpool.Just saying the man was hard done by whilst at Liverpool. They are in just as bad a state today than they were when they sacked him.The media are already creating a furore over Hodgsons appointment and that is the same way it was when he was at Liverpool.I feel sorry for the man because the English job is horrible one.It doesn`t matter who gets the job because they will be crucified at some stage.

Jackson Browne fan? Now you're talking! Let's see if he's 'running on empty' by the end of the Euros.
Paul Whitehouse should have got the job. Did an excellent job as Ron Manager: Yes....football....isn't it.....MARVELLOUS...
Observing the rabid British media is more entertaining than most of what happens on the field.

that's the thing, lord knows it'd almost be fun to see them do well to see the fucking eejits who're lambasting him now kissing his arse cause he 'beat the Germans'
Ideally i'd like them to get to a semi-final so that they all start thinking they're going to win and then (rather the penalties) have them be totally humiliated by someone good. Hodsgon does better then most, so he's kept but maybe the Joe Hart has a stinker and retires from international football to concentrate on his hair.
