THE GANDHIS
The Gandhis have just released their second album, After Autumn, and, boy, is it a gem. It’s pure class from start to finish. Breaking Tunes recently wrote – “If you’re looking for an early contender for Album of the Year you’d be hard pressed to look any further than After Autumn” – and we wholeheartedly agree. The Gandhis are also a great live band, so the show on May 6th is sure to be a cracker. As a taste of just how good these guys are, here is a single that they released some time ago; and how it wasn’t a huge hit we’ll never know! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fh1JCXqMlLM&feature=fvwp&NR=1 PAT McDONNELL
Most people will know Pat from his brilliant television work over the last 15 years. He made his breakthrough in Father Ted in the late 90s, playing the part of Eoin McLove, and then went on to play a key role in award-winning shows such as Stew and Naked Camera. Pat is also one of the best stand-up comedians in Ireland. He has played everywhere from Kilkenny Cat Laughs Comedy Festival to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; and the Sunday Times has described him as – “Splendidly original and a bit bizarre. He is the business.” Here’s a famous clip of Pat in action on The Savage Eye - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPISMWa0SMU DAITHI
Daithi is one of a kind. He uses loop-stations, synthesizers and drum machines to create an extraordinary sound all centred around one instrument – the Fiddle. The jury may still be out on what exactly to call his style of music, but there can be no doubting the fantastic skill and energy of his live performances. Daithi has played everywhere from Castlepalooza to Electric Picnic, and he has supported an impressive array of major acts, including DJ Shadow and The XX. You can download some Daithi at www.daithi.bandcamp.com – and here is some footage of him playing on SKY TV - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01sbz6VcEHw ELEANOR TIERNAN
Eleanor Tiernan is a very original and very honest stand-up comedian, but, more importantly, she is also very funny. Since beginning her comedy career, a few years ago, Eleanor has performed at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, the Galway Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Eleanor was also a semi-finalist in Paramount Comedy’s prestigious So You Think You’re Funny? Her other TV appearances include The Savage Eye and Maeve Higgins' Fancy Vittles, and here is a clip of Eleanor on The Craig Doyle Show - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPC_Oxx6dfI&feature=relmfu MARC O’REILLY
Marc O’Reilly is without question one of the best guitarists in Ireland. (If you doubt the veracity of that sentence, please click on the link below.) Last year Marc released his debut album, My Friend Marx, to huge critical acclaim, and his subsequent tour of Ireland and the UK was a roaring success. Marc has just returned from performing at the Canadian Music Festival in Toronto, and we are honoured to have him at Nighthawks at the Twisted Pepper on May 6th. Someone told me that Colm Keegan was on Morning Ireland today. They played an excerpt from 'The Crackle'.
