When good bands go bad...
|
What the hell are The Shins playing at on 'Port of Morrow'? Can that really be the same band responsible for 'Oh, Inverted World'and 'Chutes Too Narrow'? (I think a member or two may have left.)

| OK - 'Simple Song' is decent, but it's not enough. I demand consistent genius for my €13.99!

| Does every good band not go bad at some stage? There are very few bands that have maintained a consistently strong output from start to finish! Some people think Beatles For Sale was a disappointment!

| True, Number10, 'Beatles For Sale' is not their high-point, but it is still worth a hundred listens. Not bad for an album that is almost 48 years old.

Speaking of The Beatles (blame Number10), I only saw this footage a few weeks ago. It is magic.

| Everything ends up with The Beatles with you SK. Think The Shins at this stage are James Mercer and a.n.other(s) . Don't know is it a truly terrible album but it's overproduced to within an inch of its life. Simple Song far and away the best thing on it.

Yeah - the production is a bit over the top, but it is the lack of quality songs that really do it in. A lot of the lyrics are nonsense. It sounds like it is aiming for mainstream US chart success, and that is not a good place to go... if you like good songs. Of course, I have only listened to it twice, so if it is a grower, I'll be ordering some humble pie and wine.

| Dave, you can have my copy for a tenner. That's a saving of €4! Not bad in a recession. The more you spend the more you save.

I didn't know there was a correlation between spending and shaving.
Do people with loads of money have big beards?

I've been listening to it recently on Spotify. You know, on first listen I didn't think much of it at all, but after a few more listens, some of the tunes started to grow on me a bit.
If you're gonna sell that CD make sure you buy the new Real Estate album instead. One of the best albums of the year.
Or else buy the new album by Yeti Lane. Never heard of them until recently when they had a track on a recent The Word cover CD -absolutely excellent.

It's not a bad time to get into Real Estate. Or so they say...
But Evil will probably tell you otherwise.
