I saw him a few years ago in Dolans in Limerick, and he didn't look good at all. I saw him last night with The Lemonheads, and he looked a lot better, he's put on a bit of weight (in a good, not-taking-drugs kind of way), and appeared in generally good form. Though I don't think he ever says much on stage anyway.
Good gig - about a million superb power-pop tunes played in an hour and 15 minutes.

| good stuff. it's always troubling when you see someone at 'the wrong side of the equation' but much better when you see them bounce back.

I don't really mind the lack of on stage banter when the tunes are just hammered out like that. I was worried when all the UK gigs were on last winter, that we wouldn't get a run through of what is still one of my favourite albums.
Twas a great gig, but mid week fear isn't great at all

75 mins is always a poor amount of time for a gig except when its a newish band who havent much material. 90 mins at least should be mandatory.

No, Davy.
Gig of 2011 had to be DOG MAN STAR by Suede at the Olympia last May. Was about 65-70 minutes long - including encore. You saw them in Germany last year. You know that's true.

| I would have liked if he played longer, but it was billed as a "Shame About Ray" gig, and that clocks in at around 30 minutes, so they did play 45 minutes outside that

A festival gig is always different time wise and the berlin festival gave you two days worth of bands for 80 euro so you couldnt complain. but 70 mins or less for a bands gig really is poor.
Someone told me that Olympia gig was nearer 52 minutes too...

Well you should stop listening to that someone, because the DOG MAN STAR album is 57 minutes 50 seconds long... and I don't remember Suede dropping any songs at that Olympia gig. And, no, they didn't play it at punk speed either.

I dont think it was that night she went to...
regardless of who it is, the longer show the better. generally the american bands play for a lot longer.

His singing voice always reminds me of Paul Cleary of The Blades (the best Irish '80s band never to make it big internationally, kids). I love that album too. Rapidfire short pop songs are ok by me. The Undertones did it too. Stretching out songs to 5 or 6 minutes is not necessarily giving people value for money at gigs.
The current trend of performing whole albums live is going to disappoint those people who expect a long set when it comes to bands like The Lemonheads
On the other hand you might be going to the jax during some of the noodling in a few of the songs on The Big Romance by David Kitt. I still love that album too but sometimes less is more.
