"communications clinic"
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2012/0410/1224 314568793.html

Mind the gap.. I don't know how many things are wrong with this story. First, Terry Prone advising a Minister on how to give civil servants a giddy-up. Second, out of all the interesting communications that must have passed between this company and Ministers of this and previous Governments, the one that prompts a leak from the civil service is the one advising a Minister to give civil servants a giddy-up. Third, Ministers are clients of a company of which Tom Savage is a director, while he is also chairman of the board of RTE. How this is not a conflict of interest, well, I'm sure a good spin-doctor could explain...

(Three. There are three things wrong with this story, that I can count.)

Was that info not gleaned under a Freedom of Information request rather than via a leak?

Right you are. Two. There are two things wrong with this story. And two things wrong with what I wrote, the second one being that I should have written "conflict of interests".

There's a dilemma with the whole culture of FOI, in theory it gives us transparency in government, but it's also an invitation not to write things down, which ain't good. It'll be interesting to see what changes we see, I think politics is going to get a lot more boring as we go along. Government by ISO 9000 kind of a thing.

I once did a short work experience stint at Carr Communications where Prone and Savage worked in Dundrum. It was Bunny Carr's business. Stop da lights!

Other interesting people there at the time were dragon Gavin Duffy, some man called James (surname double-barrelled if memory serves) who had done sound for Thin Lizzy and women with exotic first names like Marnie and Mercedes. That was 1984. Big Brother was watching. We taped for him on U-matic vcrs.

Ah Mercedes and they way she might look at ya!

The ridiculously knowing jocular tone of the emails is fucking ghastly. Mediocrity personified – and these are the guys they get to write their speeches....

well what's weirder is the total conflict of interest going on.
Tom Savage is Chairperson of RTE, Anton Savage is presenting current affairs shows on Today FM and their wife & mother is writing speeches for Ministers??????
