Not that I am desperate to have a drink today - Im not. I can be easily just as happy sitting at home having "a few shcooops". But it is a ridiculous law and should be done away with immediately. It's preventing some businesses from generating some cash and preventing those that fancy a bevvy the option of doing so.

That said, I did see a well-known Dublin boozer is having something of a lock-in whilst out grabbing a bite to eat this afternoon.

I share those feelings entirely, R. Not pushed about the drink - just the fact that it is a stupid, sectarian law.

That got me thinking: does the word 'sectarian' cover it, or is that just a reference to differences between Christian sects?

Yeah, it's a bit ridiculous. Imagine if a gang of Geordies (for example) arriving over for a stag night or hen night and finding all the pubs closed! These are the real victims of this law. ;-)

If they didn't want to get rid of it completely, I'm sure a compromise could be reached, like not opening the pubs until a certain time, 6 or 7pm perhaps. (Is there something like that in operation up North?)

Bizarrely I did see some hen parties in over the weekend. I wonder were they caught, as it were, on the horns of a dilemma? Good for business in their hotel, I'll wager, if they were staying in one with a bar!
