1. Can’t handle flash unless you jail break it.

A major black mark against the iphone, but as I've said, not one that has made me consider getting a different phone.

2. Doesn’t use the standard usb phone charger

This really is a bollox argument. For the last 15-18 years since mobile phones came on-stream NOONE has had the same charger. Now it's being brought in you're making out like its a big deal. The standard charger won't be 'standard' until at least 5 years. I'll worry about it then. Just bring your bloody charger like you had to before.

3. Can’t expand memory with SD. Doesn't affect me personally, you have the option of several size harddrives. If you need a 40gig harddrive for your phone you're probably an idiot.

5. Can’t change battery. Not really a factor when people buy phones I'd say.

7. Fuckin’ Itunes and Apple’s stated intention to take your music (and all other personal information) off you and make you pay to get it back at a lower quality than you originally ripped/purchased/stole it

8. No automaticdelivery reports. You've just amended this because you've been caught out. The option is there if you want it.

9. No tactile feedback from touch screen keypads. I don't like typing on tiny keyboards where the buttons mush together when I press them. You say tomato etc.

10. No widgets. I've done a straw poll of people around me in the office, noone has heard of "widgets", unless they're the type rattling around a Guinness bottle.

11. Can’t act as a wifi hot spot.

Jesus christ, tethering is the same. The iphone supports tethering via Wi-Fi, usb and Bluetooth. Are you just copying and pasting some ill-informed article from anythingbutipod?

13. No radio.

Wrong. No "inbuilt FM radio to get the same 5 shitty stations available to Irish consumers". As I said, I can get hundreds of stations from around the world with the TuneIn app. I can record songs and save them, access stations playlists and get recommended stations based on what songs I "like". But you want to be able listen to Galway Bay FM. I say tomato etc.

14. No Java. Wrong. I have the option of switching this on and off in my general settings.

15. Can’t support winamp and the Apple music player won’t let you manipulate playlists.

I don't use the phone as an iPod so I can't answer this.

You ignored 7.

I don't use itunes, mainly because I don't use my phone as an MP3 player and partly for the reason you said above.

On the flipside, I gather its handy to sync all your shit at once to your different machines. I have to manually fix all my purchased/downloaded/stolen music to my mp3 player. But then, I've a mate who's a DJ and he says iTunes is a godsend, couldn't live without it. Apple are the choice of most DJs I know. Take a look next time you're watching a guy spin decks in a pub/club, you'll invariably see the logo on the back of their machine. Go up and ask him why he's using it - they make machines that work and work well. You buy any other make of PC and it'll fall apart the more you download or use memory/space.

The price you pay for that is issues like you said above - iTunes and no Flash are the two major blackmarks against it for me. The superior functionality, far wider selection of apps and ease of use make up for that. But I might try out an Android when I'm changing phone.

When I'm bothered and have enough time to do the research I'll put together a list of why you shouldn't have an Android. I'd wager there's a lot more to the Android - 'Yayyyy'/Apple - 'Boooooo' stance you seem to have, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Where did I say “Android yay”? I don’t see owning a phone as like supporting a football team.

As soon as I see a segment on the main evening news about a bunch of spas queuing up to be the first person to buy a new android phone I’ll write a list for them too.

Android definitely need to hire better marketing personnel, I agree with you there.

Which is the greater menace, Evil – Apple or Google? Right now, I'm not sure!

This might also say more about what we show as 'news' nowadays.

I don't understand how can apple take my music? Can you explain this? I have my music on a external hard drive and sometimes hook it up to itunes. Can They take it from there?
 From : evil_giraffe Posted : 22/06/11 at 21:43
They plan on doing so, yes.

Impartial source (wiki)

"For an annual charge, customers can scan and match tracks in their iTunes music library, including tracks copied from CDs or other sources, with tracks in the iTunes Store. Apple will let customers download up to 25,000 tracks in 256 kbps AAC file format that match tracks in any supported audio file format in the customers' iTunes libraries.[11] Any music that is not available in the iTunes Store can be uploaded to iCloud."

Buy your music from us or else pay an annual charge for the privilege of having access to it.

Most people think this is a great idea and can't wait for it.

By the way Hydra, I reserve the right to buy, use and enjoy an Ipod or Iphone at any time.

Which is the greater menace Apple or Google?

I'm hoping that there'll always be an alternative.

Maybe that's naive.
 From : conjig Posted : 22/06/11 at 22:05
So if they upload my music on to the iCloud my music will be gone from my hard drive and the only way to get it back is to pay them for it? I'm sorry I'm not very tech savvy.
 From : evil_giraffe Posted : 22/06/11 at 22:40
No I don't think so. The files will stay on your hard drive. Unless they offer to convert everything into their special licensed format which can't be played on anything else (which wouldn't surprise me)

I'm pretty sure their intention is to stop you playing it on their devices without it passing through their Icloud first.
 From : number10 Posted : 22/06/11 at 23:50
Behind all of this there is another somewhat sinister twist: in the lovely world of the internet, and indeed of devices like mobile phones, everything you do is recorded and analysed by people with an interest in selling - or rather a determination to sell - you something else.

I know that a lot of this information could in the past be gleaned from credit cards but the CC companies - who were not generally in the business of selling CDs, books or gadgets to you - were constrained from passing this information on to other third parties who might be able to exploit it. But the megalomaniacs in Apple have no such limitations...

And Google are in the same business. And Facebook.

They all present a facade of openness but their only interest is the loot that they can screw from what they see ultimately only as consumers...

What a load of misinformation.

1)If you have downloaded iTunes songs in the past you will be able to dowlaod them again to ANY DEVICE that has iTunes, Mac or not as many times as you like.

2) The idea they steal your identity is no more than Google, MSN or Yahooo do once you use their search engines, for a list of sites who claim not to store your data checkout Lifehackers site, though I can't validate their claim as I am not an employee or developer of these so called browser sites, so I can't speculate to whether they are altruistic or just money hungry whores like most MBC's.

3) iCloud will not be a mandatory feature so you dont have to use if you don't wish, if you do chose to do so, then as Hydra pointed out it will have some convient back up features, otherwise if you fear technology and the intrusive nature of all digital companies go back to letters, postcards and teletext.

Damn tiny keyboard MNC, Yahoo and download.
 From : evil_giraffe Posted : 23/06/11 at 07:10
What took you so long Paaul? I bet you've steam coming out your ears.

What if I want to rip music from cd or buy it from Amazon or somewhere else?

What if I buy into the icloud thing then in 5 years time decide I'd like to use a different brand of tablet/phone/desktop? Where's my music?
 From : evil_giraffe Posted : 23/06/11 at 08:17
The electricity's gonna pour out of the sockets and kill us all.
 From : evil_giraffe Posted : 23/06/11 at 08:42
"Damn tiny keyboard"

You can get smart phones with slide out qwerty keyboards.
