Any good info on marketing and promotion on the net????

How does an artist promote his music with limited time and money
How do you dicipher all the crap websites churned out by google.
Any good websites or even books(if they are useful)
there seems to be a lot of g eneralised tripe out there. not real advise.
So assuming I have the comon sense to know how to present my press releases pr packs etc. who do I send copies of my album to or should I burn off 3 of my best songs.

Basically you utilize Google and search engines to maximum effect to what you are aiming to achieve, if its djs, press and media contacts, just Google them or look here in HP for contact details and introduce yourself and your music to them, In a neat and orderly conduct, your music is also your business, treat it like that.
Insofar as press packs, do up a short and to the point bio highlighting your career to date, lke what you have achieved who you have played with etc.... and remember to put your contact details on a CD, with track titles, you can put 3 of your best songs. get them done up for cheap in Dublin or anywhere around Ireland- they have great duplication services, again, Google!!
Approaching anyone within the industry, remember you have to make yourself sound, look and act good. get their attention by respectful mannerisms. Not by ignorance or thinking your the next best thing and throwing yourself at them.
The internet is great to obtain info and contacts.
