THE BEST NIGHT OUT IN DUBLIN IS BACK!
Nighthawks at the Cobalt

Saturday, May 27th, 2017

Folks – here is what we have lined up…

SHIPS

Ships are Sorca McGrath and Simon Cullen – and they are two of the funkiest cats in the land. They have just released an album entitled Precession and it is an absolute masterclass in gorgeous synth-pop and vintage electronica. But don’t just take our word for it. Mr. Nialler9 (if that is his real name!) has already made Precession his album of this week and has confidently predicted that it will be one of his favourite albums of the year. Here are Ships with ‘Around This World’.

THE CITIZEN

The Citizen is Ken O’Duffy. He was the main songwriter and vocalist behind the legendary Dublin band Saville – and in the last couple of years he has released two superb albums as The Citizens. This man writes quality songs for breakfast, lunch and dinner (or breakfast, dinner and tea). Like this one…

COL M O’REGAN

Colm O’Regan is a stand-up comedian, a bestselling author, an award-winning broadcaster, and a hugely popular columnist with the Irish Examiner. He also makes regular contributions to RTE Radio 1 and the BBC World Service. (To be perfectly honest, he should just really take a day off at some point and stop making the rest of us feel so guilty for doing shag all.) Anyway, the really good news for us is that Colm O’Regan is a funny fecker. In the words of Hot Press magazine – “Colm O’Regan is so funny he could reduce a 19th century Russian novelist to tears.” Here is some footage of Colm performing at the Laughter Lounge.

JO HN CUMMINS

John Cummins is a poetician and recent All-Ireland Poetry Slam Champion. His silky words twist and glide like Lionel Messi on a good day (circa 2011) – and John’s recent performance in the main auditorium of the National Concert Hall was nothing short of magnificent. It’s no wonder that even BBC TV have shown this man’s poetry. He is class – so he is. Anyone for chips?

END A REILLY

It is literally impossible to find a single person on this planet with a bad word to say about Enda Reilly. (We’ve tried.) Enda is a great guitarist with a great voice, and his impressive beard is sure to fill even John Cummins and Colm O’Regan with hair envy on May 27th. (Enda, don’t shave before then!) Enda Reilly is also the writer of killer tunes like this one.

HELEN E HUTCHINSON

One of the most spellbinding performances we’ve ever had at the Cobalt came from this wonderful soprano – and we are chuffed to finally have her back on the line-up for Nighthawks. Here is a voice that is guaranteed to make you shiver (in a very good way). Take a look and listen to Helene singing ‘Caro Nome’ from Verdi’s Rigoletto.

Not sure why some of the acts ended up with extra spaces in their names. Apologies!

Yeah right! I think that's how you're trying to lure us in.

Well it must've worked.

The show sold out earlier today.

Just saw the e-mail. Sorry I won't be there. I'm sure it'll be a great night.
