Hot Press are joining forces with Beck’s Fusions to find the act who’ll support Neosupervital at the initiative’s exclusive launch party in the Dublin Village on September 5.
Eight re-mixes of this track taken from the debut album of Ireland’s answer to Hot Chip might be seven too many for most people. But there’s no denying the skill and studio wizardry going on here especially if you like your tunes to come in different flavours. The ‘Corrugated Tunnel’ mix which is a kind New Order-meets-the Human League stands out among the bunch but with this much choice on offer there’s a version for everyone in the audience.
It’s a bit late in the year for this to become a summer anthem, which is a pity, as Neosupervital has delivered an excellent tune to whet appetites for an upcoming debut album. The synths and the drum machines are cheap and nasty and just perfect for the plastic vocals.
NEOSUPERVITAL has taken the music of the 80s as his blueprint, added in a large dollop of tongue-in-cheek humour, mixed in some observations on modern Ireland and garnished it all with a sprinkling of wry irony. And he’s bloody brilliant at it.
Operating somewhat around the fringes up until now, you always felt that Tim O’Donovan just needed the right tune to really launch Neosupervital. ‘Nothing’ is that tune and then some, a spot on pop record that references all the right things and would sound equally fine on daytime radio as it would a packed dancefloor.
