Banish the Monday blues by taking a gander at the blockbusters coming soon to a cinema near you...
Brad Pitt looks suitably phwoar in World War Z, a post-apocalyptic zombie yarn that's loosely based on the Max “Son of Mel” Brooks novel of the same name.
Due in June 2013, it’s a Hollywood co-starring first for Mireille Enos whose small-screen credits include Big Love and the US version of The Killing.
Whilst devoid of vampire hunting – boo! –Steven Spielberg’s new blockbuster-in-the-making, Lincoln, has been getting rave advances in the States.
"It's not sexy theatrically," the superstar director reflects. "It's not the animatronic Abraham Lincoln at the Epcot Center at Walt Disney World. But it is the true historical record.”
With Liam Neeson declining the part – “We just couldn't come to terms on the story,” Spielberg adds – Abe-playing duties fall to Daniel Day-Lewis who’s joined by fellow heavyweights Sally Field, David Strathairn, James Spader and Tommy Lee Jones.
Also due this Chrimbo from the House of Spielberg is Jurassic Park 3D. We can’t virtual up the glasses but here’s the rejigged trailer.
If you want to scare the mincemeat out of yourself this Christmas, look no further than Silent Night, which finds Nowheresville, America terrified by a taser, blowtorch and chainsaw-wielding Santa. Malcolm McDowell and Jaime King co-star in a film that's so bad it's brilliant!
The psycho killers keep on coming with In Their Skin, a family-move-into-remote-country-house frightener par excellence. Top-billing for once goes to the mom, Selma Blair, with Josh Close, Rachel Miner and James D’Arcy also making it on to the poster.
The week's most illustrious cast – Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen – belongs to the epic Hollywood version of Les Misérables.
Perfect if you’ve a mum demanding a cinema outing this Yultide.
In case you think Movies Monday has lost its sense of humour, let us treat you to a sneak preview of Playing For Keeps, the rather unlikely tale of a Celtic striker who starts a new life in the States as an ESPN pundit. Jessica Biel, Denis Quaid and Uma Thurman add to the feelgood factor.
Switching to the small screen and here’s one of the 12-minute [link]http://www.youtube.com/MachinimaPrime[/link] webisodes that Syfy are using to promote their Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome prequel.
Finally, here’s the advance word on FX/Starz’s Da Vinci’s Demons, the “untold” time/reality-hopping story of Leonardo’s early years. Writing duties fall to Batman Begins/The Dark Knight/Blade man David S. Goyter.
