A stripped down 'Original Of The Species' appears on thew new Every Mother Counts 2012 compilation.
Bono and The Edge contribute an acoustic ‘Original Of The Species’ to Every Mother Counts 2012, a second compilation album that Christy Turlington’s titular charity is releasing in conjunction with Starbucks.
“I went to friends first, as I did with the first CD,” the supermodel tells Rolling Stone. "Bono and Chris Martin were great supporters of the project the first time around, and when I knew I wanted to include men on this album they were obvious choices. They are also both fathers to daughters. Others, such as Patti Smith and Rita Wilson, I've known for a long time, and some, like Edie Brickell and Paul Simon, I only met briefly but was a huge admirer. I generally wanted a diverse group of artists who were parents, or in the case of Edward Sharpe, who will be soon. We wanted to reach a broad audience on this issue with this particular project and with a range of perspectives.”
Other original contributions include Alanis Morissette’s ‘Magical Child’, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros’ ‘Mother’, the Electric Picnic-bound Patti Smith’s ‘Somalia’, Rufus Wainwright’s ‘Instead Of The Dead’ and Beck’s ‘Corrina, Corinna’, which is streaming at http://www.pitchfork.com/news/46260-listen-beck-covers-corrina-corrina
“Beck is one of my favorite artists and I was really moved by his choice in song, 'Corrina, Corrina’ which is a cover of a 1928 tune written by B. Chatman, M. Parish, and J. Mayo Williams,” Turlington enthuses. “I don't know the inspiration for the original song but I am so moved by Beck's version as he chose it with Every Mother Counts' mission to reduce maternal mortality in mind.”
