David Kitt is the latest name to be added to the Gig For Michael D, which takes place tonight (Sunday October 23) in The Village, in Wexford Street, Dublin.
Kitt is one of the most respected indie performers in Ireland, with a legacy of big selling albums and international acclaim. His first alum Small Moments, released in 2000, paved the way for a stellar decade, during which he released seven albums in all, including 2007's Misfits, an album of rare and unreleased tracks.
Kitt's decision to support Michael D is significant, in that his father Tom Kitt was a Fianna Fáil TD for 24 years, and served as a Junior Minister on three occasions as well as being the Government Chief Whip under Bertie Ahern. Tom Kitt was also a musician, and supported David strongly in his decision to pursue a musical career and father ands son have remained close. For a member of the Kitt family to express his support for the former Minister for the Arts, against Sean Gallagher - who is steeped in Fianna Fáil - will certainly galvanise other musicians and artists to support Michael D's campaign over the course of the final few days.

Tonight, however, it is for his music that Kitt's presence will be celebrated. His The Big Romance came in at an impressive No.31 in the Hot Press Greatest Irish Albums of All Time Poll and contains such Kitt classics as 'Song From Hope Street' and ''You Know What I Wanna Know'.
Also featuring on this evening's Gig For Michael D are headliners The Stunning, as well as Si Schroeder, Joe Chester and Ghozties, in what promises to be a powerful rock'n'roll extravaganza. DJs include Anna Nolan and there will also be a number of special guests appearing as the evening unfolds.
