Bands will now battle it out in a major national competition.
Irish bands who think they have what it takes to play on the world stage are being given their chance to prove it. Guinness, in association with Hot Press and RTÉ 2fm, are offering Irish bands the ultimate opportunity: to play the main stage on Arthur's Day in Dublin. The Play On The Day competition will form an integral part of this year's celebrations.
The nationwide search, which covers the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, is open to all contenders performing in any musical style or genre. The judges are looking for an act that will bring something extra special to the Arthur's Day line-up, and who will also benefit most from the brilliant platform which the competition offers.
Arthur's Day – Play On the Day: How It Works:
To be in with the chance of joining the line-up, bands and solo acts have until August 12 to submit their entry to the competition via the [link]www.hotpress.com/playontheday[/link] website. The judges will then decide on a shortlist of artists in each of four regions to go forward to the Second Round.
At this point, a track from each of the short-listed bands will be made available on the Guinness Arthur's Day Play on the Day website. Over an eight day period, members of the public will vote for their favourite tracks in each region. Following the public vote, the top four bands in each region will go forward to the Live Regional Finals, scheduled for September 7 and 8 in venues around Ireland – following which four Regional Winners will be announced.
The Regional Winners will go forward to the Grand Final, a week later. The National Winner of the ultimate Guinness Arthur's Day Play On The Day prize package will be selected at the final by the judges – with the winner going on to play the MAIN STAGE at the GUINNESS HOP STORE, on Arthur's Day.
