Guinness have unveiled the first batch of acts for this year’s Arthur’s Day celebrations on September 22.
Stereophonics, Scissor Sisters, Paloma Faith, Calvin Harris, Aloe Blaac, Ash, Miles Kane, Ed Sheeran, Ryan Sheridan, Royseven, Cashier No. 9, Bressie, Keywest, The Kanyu Tree, The Lowly Knights and A Plastic Rose will appear at different venues around Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Belfast and 40 countries around the world.
Hot Press caught up with confirmed Arthur’s Day act Ryan Sheridan at the launch in Whelan’s, Dublin.
Sheridan performed at last year’s Arthur’s Day and is excited about this year.
“Isn’t it amazing. It’s like a festival isn’t it. We played last year as well in the Stag’s Head and Fitzsimons in Temple Bar and I remember leaving Fitzsimons and going to the Stag’s Head and Paolo Nutini was playing in The Temple Bar, just in the corner of the room. And I was sitting there going: this is an amazing day. And obviously the serious side of it as well, all the money goes to the Arthur Guinness Fund so it’s great to be a part of it all and come back again this year,” said the singer.
It was confirmed at Whelan’s that Jamie Regan (Hand On Heart Enterprises), John McEvoy (Irish Men’s Shed Organisation), Robin Blandford (Decisions For Heroes), George Boyle (The Fumbally Exchange), Michael Hallisy & John Hurley (H2 Learning), Oisin Scollard (Turn2Me), Stephen Plunkett (U-Casadh), Stuart McLaughlin (Fundit), John Kearney (West Cork Rapid Response) and Denis Roche (Vivartes) are all to receive substantial awards from the Arthur Guinness Fund.
Since being established in 2009, the fun has raised a cool €1.65 million for social entrepreneurs in Ireland.
