Shocker as credible artists sweep the boards!
The BRIT Awards, held last night at London's 02 arena proved a most satisfying affair with HP faves such as Laura Marling, Arcade Fire, Mumford & Suns and Plan B all winning for the first time at the ceremony. It was the Montreal band who replicated their Grammy success at the weekend by winning two gongs, for Best International Group and Album. UK rapper Tinie Tempah also picked up two awards for Best British Single and Best Breakthrough Act, while Marling and Plan B (known to his mom as Ben Drew) won Best British Female and Male respectively.
Irish interest at the awards was limited to The Script and The Wanted but sadly both went home empty handed. Fortunatly for organisers (and most unfortunatly for viewers), there were no scandals or car-crash television moments last night to rival Liam Gallagher throwing his award into the crowd last year or Vic Reeves and Sharon Osborne trading insults live on stage in 2008.
Standout live performances this year came from Adele, Rihanna, Arcade Fire and Cee-Lo Green, who swapped Gwyneth Paltrow for Paloma Faith to sing "Forget You'.
