From evil rubber tyres bent on world conquest to a urine-based computer game, it’s all happening on the web.
Caught In The Net has seen horror movies where leprechauns, St. Bernard dogs, tomatoes, ventriloquists’ dummies and 1958 Plymouths are responsible for the hack ‘n’ slashing, but as far as we know, this is the first time a film has had a black radial tyre as its evil protagonist.
The work of director Quentin Dupieux, AKA French electro-house merchant Mr. Oizo, Rubber is “the story of Robert, an inanimate tyre that has been abandoned in the desert, and suddenly and inexplicably comes to life. As Robert roams the bleak landscape, he discovers that he possesses terrifying telepathic powers that give him the ability to destroy anything he wishes without having to move. At first content to prey on small desert creatures and various discarded objects, his attention soon turns to humans, especially a beautiful and mysterious woman who crosses his path. Leaving a swath of destruction across the desert landscape, Robert becomes a chaotic force to be reckoned with, and truly a movie villain for the ages.”

Caught In The Net is also looking forward to copping an eyeful of Scenes From The Suburbs, Spike Jonze’s 28-minute “sci-fi B-movie” accompaniment to the current Arcade Fire long-player.
“We played Spike some music from the album and the first images that came to his mind had the same feeling as this idea for a science fiction film I had when I was younger,” Win Butler explains. “My brother and I and Spike wrote it together, which was really fun – it was like total amateur hour.”
If you’d like to see Scenes From The Suburbs when it premieres next month at the Berlin Film Festival, a limited number of tickets are available from www.berlinale.de.
From there it’s but a mere mouse-click to toylets.sega.jp/index.shtml, the home of the new “urine-controlled game” that’s been taking Tokyo by storm.
At present the Sega Toylet is only available in public conveniences where players can monitor their performance on an LCD screen and, flushed with success, print out their highest score. The www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAUmwUkPLBM&feature=player_embedded#! demo explains all.
Which just leaves time for quick visits to www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBGOQ7SsJrw (Conan The Barbarian: The Musical); bit.ly/tdccpartytimes (remix of the new Two Door Cinema Club single); naturesoundsfor.me/sheepsea (ambient noises ahoy!); gawker.com/5721464/argentinas-dancing-with-the-stars-is-pretty-much-straight-up-porn (XXX-rated Argie version of Strictly Ballroom); and julianassangecoloringbook.com (some people really do have too much time on their hands).
