THERE WERE two Irish records in the UK club charts simultaneously for the first time ever recently. As Belfast boy Wand’s remix of Dubliner Kerri Ann’s ‘Do You Love Me Boy’ slipped from number 27 to number 29, Northern duo Agnelli & Nelson crashed straight in at number five.
THERE WERE two Irish records in the UK club charts simultaneously for the first time ever recently. As Belfast boy Wand’s remix of Dubliner Kerri Ann’s ‘Do You Love Me Boy’ slipped from number 27 to number 29, Northern duo Agnelli & Nelson crashed straight in at number five. Agnelli & Nelson were already the highest ever ranked Irish act on the Buzz Chart, and are now the highest ranked Irish act on the Club Charts too. Agnelli & Nelson’s latter ranking easily surpasses the previous Irish bests of Sound Crowd Orchestra (peak of 13) and Mister Spring (peak of 17) . . .
Speaking of Mister Spring, the Bray producer has just remixed ‘Happy People’ by Boston DJs for UK independent label Dance 2 . . . We don’t know much about Dublin dance producer Jim Lawlor – except that he has his debut single ‘Death To Eclectic’ released this month on Tantrum, under the guise of Dujour …
The Egg release their second album Travelator this month on Indochina . . . The new Ian M remix of ‘Black Is Black’ by Allnighters is a prelude to the upcoming Tidy Trax compilation, Keep It Tidy . . . Mushroom follow last year’s acclaimed King Of The Beats compilation with another great hip-hop compilation out on August 24th, cunningly titled King Of The Beats Volume 2. The album is the official soundtrack to this year’s Playstation UK Breakdance Championships . . . Former PWL and Avex UK head honcho Phil France is now handling promotions at Almighty – recently on the 2FM ‘A’ list with Donna Summer’s ‘Carry On’. Roni Size and James Brown are on the same (dream) line-up at the Point on August 21st . . . Munki Promotions are latest bunch of breaks and beats promoters to emerge in Dublin. On the same tip, up-and-coming promoters Lex and Blunt have teamed up to present the best in breaks and beats at The Lane Club every Friday night. Resident DJs will be Kenny, Keevo and Del Diablo . . . Quadraphonic resident Razor is off on an American Tour at the end of August. He plays four dates in New York, Washington and good old Philadelphia. Meanwhile, Quadraphonic’s more eclectic sister club Stereophonic has announced it will be launching a record label in October . . .

Cork’s nightlife has livened up thanks to the recent launch of Venus at Gorbys Complex. Sponsored by Guinness, and running in three rooms, Venus will take place every Friday and Saturday night.
