Brendam Graham becomes a 'Million-Air'
Irish songwriter Brendan Graham is doubtless feeling chuffed with himself this week after joining the ‘Million-Air’ club.
The American Performing Rights Society, BMI award is for one million US radio plays of ‘You Raise Me Up’ which he co-wrote in 2001 with Secret Garden’s Rolf Lovland. The song has been covered 125 times by everyone from Westlife and Paul Potts to Il Divo and Alabama’s Oak Mountain High School.
A million spins equates to at least 50,000 broadcast hours, or 5.7 years of continuous airplay.
The Mayo-based songwriter, who was a founding member of the Irish Music Rights Organisation, joins a list of Million-Airs that also includes John Lennon, Van Morrison, Enya, Eric Clapton, The Corrs, Mick Hanly, Roy Orbison and Elton John.
