Irish artist to give 10,000 singles away free!
Carlow singer Joe Cleere is pulling a Radiohead and giving away his new single for free in quality digipaks across Europe.
The Irish artist Joe Cleere will give away 10,000 free copies of his debut single ‘Queue’ in high quality digipaks across Ireland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, France, Italy and the UK as a promotional aid for his debut album East/West. The official release of the single is set for September 13, with the album to follow in February 2009.
Cleere won the 2fm Song Contest in 2006, built a home studio with the winnings and recorded his debut album with his band on a shoe string. Thanks to an Artlinks Bursary Award East/West has been mixed by Philip Magee (Aslan, The Script) and is currently being mastered in New York by Steve Fallone at Sterling Sound (The Strokes, Sonic Youth).
As Cleere revealed his plan exclusively to Jackie Hayden for Hot Press, he explained his thinking behind it. ”Although this is an unorthodox move, we hope it will enable our music to be heard by the public directly and to spark widespread discussion about the new era of independent Irish music and how Irish artists can launch themselves.”
