Calling all bands and solo artists!
The IMRO Showcase Tour returns for its 17th year in spring 2008, and hundreds of Irish acts are expected to join the race for a highly coveted slot at one of the nationwide series of gigs.
With a strong reputation for showcasing the best newcomers on the Irish music scene, the tour is renowned for attracting attention from key players in the media and music industry, both at home and abroad.
The showcases have developed an enviable reputation on the various A&R networks as the place to spot some of the best newcomers from these shores.
Over the years many new Irish acts have played some of their first shows at the IMRO showcase nights. Recent acts to appear on the tour include Declan O’Rourke (V2), The Marshals (Faction Records/Universal), La Rocca (Chrysalis Music), The Flaws (Universal), Roesy (N4 Records), 8 Ball (Lakota Records), Oppenheimer (Bar/None US), Leya (Rubyworks), Mainline (Loog Records UK) and The Immediate (Fantastic Plastic Records UK) to name a few.
2007’s line-up included the Meteor Award nominated Fight Like Apes, who are currently taking the country by storm, and Belfast electro duo Oppenheimer who have just returned from a very successful US tour.
Up to forty acts will take part on the tour which makes its way around the country during March and April, performing at ten regional gigs in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Belfast, Limerick and Dundalk plus other soon to be confirmed venues. The culmination of the tour will see a “Best of Tour Gig” in The Village, Dublin at the end of April.
“In terms of catching what’s hot out there, the IMRO Showcase Tour is the most consistent, longest running and frankly the best” said Dave Fanning, RTÉ 2FM
The 2008 tour receives nationwide support from RTÉ 2FM through the Dave Fanning, Dan Hegarty, Cormac Battle and Jenny Huston radio shows, as well as additional countrywide support from The Star Newspaper.
Artists wishing to be considered for one of these gigs should send their MySpace links etc. to [email protected]
