Free 1977 reprint with this issue's Hot Press!
To mark its 30th anniversary, the new Hot Press (published Thursday, June 28) comes with a free reprint of the original magazine from 1977.
The 32-page reprint of selected articles and editorial from ‘77 features Rory Gallagher on the very first Hot Press cover. The Irish rock legend was announced inside as the headline for the country’s first major open-air festival in Macroom, Co. Cork, on June 26th 1977. And today’s gig goers may be surprised at the festival ticket price of £2.50!
Features include:
- Gene Kerrigan charts the near demise of the Irish Times in a piece that gives a real sense of the economic and cultural undercurrent at the time.
- Bill Graham interviews The Clash and reports on the shocking murder that took place at Ireland's first punk festival.
- Those logging onto Ticketmaster in the modern concert era may be surprised to learn how advance tickets were bought for Thin Lizzy’s 1977 gig at Dalymount Park. Fans were required to cut out a form in Hot Press and send it with a cheque and stamped addressed envelope to the event organisers. After allowing eight days the cheque to clear, tickets would be sent out – and those buying in advance received a 75p discount off the £4.75 admission!
