Fans of the Electric Picnic festival have been rewarded with news that a similar – but even more intimate – musical extravaganza is being held in June.
As exclusively revealed in the last issue of Hot Press, Electric Picnic co-promoters POD Concerts are running a second boutique festival in Ballinlough Castle, Athboy, Co. Meath on June 4.
Running from 2pm to 2am the Garden Party – a new event that’s destined to become a feature of the annual Irish festival calendar – will be spread across four stages, in the beautiful walled garden that is part of the castle complex. This is an entirely different site to that which will be used for the Midlands country festival, which will also take place in Ballinlough, later in the summer.
The line-up is impressive, with 2 Many DJs, Toots & The Maytals, Groove Armada’s Andy Cato, Asian Dub Foundation, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Nightmare On Wax Sound System, Guilty Pleasures, Scratch Perverts (DJ set), Booka Shade, Markey, Alexander Robotnik and Pogo DJs among the attractions already announced. Others will be added to what is an excellent bill for anyone capable of shaking their booty.
Adding to the Bank Holiday Sunday fun will be cabaret, sideshows, theatrical karaoke, a flea circus and Pod mixologists shaking up fabulously tasty cocktails.
Tickets priced €65 are on sale now.
