There’s a lot to be said for the prevalent DIY ethos in Irish music. The chances of a record such as 'The Saltee Tango' ever getting a release on anyone else’s label aside from Stoat’s own are surely pretty slim. That would, however, leave the world a poorer – if slightly less bizarre – place. A mix of South American rhythms, sea shanties and faintly sinister guitars, this is the kind of weird and absolutely wonderful record that could only come out of a thriving independent music scene. Besides, there aren’t enough records that mention poop decks.
