Killin' Clocks
This debut album by Sligo fiddler Philip Duffy contains some of the most informative sleeve notes I’ve ever encountered on a self-release – but that’s by no means all there is to like about it.
This debut album by Sligo fiddler Philip Duffy contains some of the most informative sleeve notes I’ve ever encountered on a self-release – but that’s by no means all there is to like about it. The playing is easy and unpretentious, and there’s tastefully restrained accompaniment from fellow Sligomen Kevin Brehony and Hugh Sullivan on piano and bodhrán, respectively, plus Declan Courell from Castlebar on guitar. The real treats, though, are Duffy’s original compositions, particularly two gorgeous waltzes dedicated to the memory of Countess Markievicz.
