Hot shots 2004: Iain Archer
Is Iain Archer the Steve Buscemi of Celtic indie?
The Bangor lad has been navigating a strange and circuitous route for the best part of a decade now – popping up in cameos where you would least expect him, and most of the time stealing the show. He’s played guitar for Snow Patrol, gone front of stage with The Reindeer Section and offered more than moral support to The Amazing Pilots. All this while going stealthily about the business of stitching together his own sound.
Debut Bright Star single ‘Running In Dreams’ gave an early indication of the patterns emerging – intriguingly murky acoustics sprinkled with tricksy electro fairy dust. But the album, Flood In Dreams offers for view a far more startling tapestry.
It’s a fitting vehicle for his talents – a record to lift a gifted support out of the shadows and place him firmly at the top of the bill. 2004 could be the year of the Archer.
