The Well Tempered Bow
They play with a confidence rarely seen in musicians this young, and Liz also contributes some fine original tunes
The debut CD by two fiddle-playing sisters from Letterfrack. With assorted competition titles to their credit, the pair have been touring with Sharon Shannon’s band The Woodchoppers for the past three years, and the experience has clearly done them good: they play with a confidence rarely seen in musicians this young, and Liz also contributes some fine original tunes. Guitar backing from John Blake is competent and tasty, but the focus is clearly on the melody instruments. They’ve made a point of not including any solo tracks, which seems to me like a pity. However, that’s their prerogative, and the raw, swinging sound of the twin fiddles is more than exciting enough to carry the album through.
