New Nirvana best-of, including the previously unreleased 'You Know You're Right', to hit the shelves before Christmas, says Courtney Love. News to us, say Universal Records
Courtney Love, the wife of the late Kurt Cobain, has announced the imminent release of a new Nirvana track. It will feature exclusively on the new Nirvana Greatest Hits album, which according to Love, may be on the way in the near future.
Speaking on the Howard Stern radio show in America, Love – who fronts her own band Hole – claimed that the greatest hits compilation, including a previously unreleased song, ‘You Know You’re Right’, will be "out by Christmas". The previously unheard track in question was recorded in January 1994, just three months before the tragic death of frontman Kurt Cobain.
Nirvana's unreleased material had become the subject of a legal dispute between Love and the surviving former members of the band, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl. The former Nirvana men, now with the hugely successful Foo Fighters, had wanted to release a box set of unheard tracks. In response, Love had taken action to prevent the material from ever hitting the shelves. Now, however, she says that the lawsuits are settled and that an agreement has been reached with Grohl and Novoselic. She also states that her own contractual battle against Universal Music Group, in relation to Hole, has been settled "for a lot of money".

In a statement, Universal Music, the parent company of Nirvana's ex-label Geffen, told Hot Press that they have "no information about such a release at the moment."
