Muse however, didn't fair so well with TV and streaming viewers.
Glastonbury 2016 attracted a total of 18.7 million BBC television viewers over the last weekend. Its a 3 percent increase on last year's figures with headliners Adele and Coldplay taking top honours.
Opening Friday headliners Muse faired the worst attracting just 346,000 via their BBC4 live stream and 420,000 when the performance was repeated on BBC2. Adele's Saturday night slot shown live on BBC2 managed 3.7 million viewers, the highest figures for the slot since Jay-Z in 2008.
Coldplay pulled in 3.7 million viewers with an average of 2 million compared to their most recent headline slot in 2011 which attracted 1 million. Jeff Lyne's ELO played this year's Legends Sunday slot and were seen by another record number of 2.4 million. Last year's slot was filled by Lionel Richie who pulled in 1.7 million.
As a result of their performances at the world's biggest music festival musicians have seen sales of their music go on the up this week. Adele's 25 looks set to regain the top spot and ELO's best of album All Over The World has moved up to number three in the UK charts. Muse's Drones has reentered the charts at number 15 along with Foals' What Went Down at 19. In contrast Tom Odell's recently released Wrong Crowd has fallen 10 places despite his appearance at the festival.
