Crashpad Number’
Marc Carroll, one time Puppy Love Bomber and moaning ho’ returns with a frankly poptabulous solo debut. ‘Crashpad Number’ is guitar driven rock that quite frankly pisses over the Travis’ of this world, tipping its hat at the Beatles and the Beach Boys in the process. ‘Buffalo Ballet’ is less successful, the sort of pastoral ballad that XTC’s Colin Moulding excels at but here sounding twee and mannered. Third track ‘Raglan Road’ is an absolute killer cover of the trad standard, showing off Carroll’s distinctive sexy vocal and his knack for arrangement. This number is going to be gracing the soundtrack of some Irish film or other very, very soon. Marc my words.
