There'll be plenty of homegrown talent flying the flag next month
Our home-grown heroes have had their work duly recognised at last night’s BAFTA nominations.
As if receiving a nod from the Golden Globes wasn’t enough, Saoirse Ronan must have that Friday feeling courtesy of the BAFTAs as she has been nominated for ‘Best Actress’ for her beautiful performance in Brooklyn. Ronan is up against some stiff competition from the likes of Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) and Brie Larson (Room) but we’ve every faith our golden girl can bring home the gong.
Despite her 21 young years this is the 3rd time she has been nominated in this category for her previous roles in Atonement and The Lovely Bones. Brooklyn is in the running to win six of the awards including ‘Adapted Screenplay’ and ‘Costume Design’.
Meanwhile, Micheal Fassbender will compete for the accolade of ‘Best Actor’ for his portrayal of the late Apple mastermind, Steve Jobs.
Colin Farrell’s quirky art house The Lobster sits alongside Brooklyn for ‘Outstanding British Film’, while Emma Donoghue is gaining recognition for her screenplay for Room as she’s nominated in the category of ‘Adapted Screenplay’. The film, directed by Dublin’s Lenny Abrahamson, continues to be a front runner this award season as it is also nominated for ‘Best Film’ in the upcoming Golden Globes.
We will find out the fate of our Irish favourites as the Bafta’s take place on Sunday, February 14th at London’s Royal Opera House.
Here’s the full list of nominations to speculate over until then:
