We revisit archive interviews and talk to her record company boss of bosses
As Adele gets ready to break cash-registers all over the world again, the new issue of Hot Press has the inside story on the making of a superstar.
Talking to our man Stuart Clark in January 2008 to coincide with the release of her debut 19 album, Ms. Adkins discussed the pros and cons of having attended the Brit School and her fellow ex-student, Amy Winehouse.
“The plusses were the unlimited free rehearsal time, and discovering by being in one for a few months that band democracy is not for me,” she reflected. “None of the teachers have ever been in the spotlight, so what do the fuck they know? If you’re asking me today whether I’m in control of my life, I’ll say, ‘Yeah, completely’, but that probably would’ve been Amy’s answer to that question two years ago. You don’t know how fame’s going to affect you until you’re famous. I do find it disgusting the way everybody’s feeding off her problems.”
And that’s just for starters… Checking in with Adele at strategic points during her meteoric rise, and talking last year to her record company boss of bosses, Martin Mills, Hot Press has been privy to the inner machinations of pop's greatest modern day phenomenon.
