There’s plenty going on in the capital to celebrate the wonders of wax
As Team Hot Press rummages around the back of the couch to find every last cent to snap up some precious vinyl tomorrow, we’re also constructing a carefully planned itinerary to catch the best of the action to mark Record Store Day.
There’s action all weekend at Tower Records, where the Dawson Street doors will be flung open at 8am to accommodate the eager beavers who simply can’t handle another hour without the hottest special releases. An array of artists will also be on hand to provide the real thing; The Mighty Stef (pictured above), Mundy, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Spies, Fox Jaw, Cry Monster Cry and This Other Kingdom are all slated to perform throughout the weekend.
The Tower team are also taking over The Dean Hotel from 1.30pm each day, with DJs spinning their favourite vinyl releases.
Freebird Records are also getting in on the live action, with Cloud Castle Lake, Brigid Power-Ryce, Lynched and We, The Oceanographers all hitting Wicklow Street tomorrow.
There’s also a veritable mini-fest to look forward to on Capel Street, as bands from the Record Store Gay compilation perform at Outhouse from 1pm-6pm, before festivities move to Pantibar. Among the bands to catch are – deep breath - Hi Fashion, Kate’s Party, I Heart The Monster Hero, Florence Olivier, Katherine Lynch & Switzerland, Patrick Kelleher, Gross Net, The Late David Turpin, Brian Conniffe, Gar Cox, Fierce Mild, Feather Beds, GODHATESDISCO, Laura Ann Brady and more.
Here is what the good folk at HMV have up their collective sleeve.
If you missed it earlier, the details on the goings-on outside Dublin are here; and if, god forbid, we managed to overlook anything, all the participating Record Store Day venues are to be found right here.
