Finally.
Ever-so-slightly upping the chance that Spider-Man’s small little world may be expanding so that we don’t have to sit through that origin story yet again, Sony is officially letting little Peter Parker play with the Marvel boys across the street. Yes, Sony has confirmed that Spider-Man will next appear in an as-yet unconfirmed Marvel movie, before starring in a new standalone outing.
It is expected that Spidey’s first Marvel appearance will be in Captain America: Civil War, although this has yet to be officially confirmed. According to the release, other characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, may also be integrated into future Spider-Man movies, the latest of which is pencilled in for a U.S. release on July 28, 2017. Kevin Feige, president of Walt Disney Co's Marvel Studios, will co-produce the next film, with Sony's former movies head Amy Pascal.
It’s notable that Andrew Garfield isn’t mentioned anywhere in the release, adding to what previous rumours have suggested; that the role will almost certainly be going elsewhere. Let the casting rumours commence!
