The summer continental hit ‘Prayer In C’ has finally exploded in Ireland. Meanwhile, Hozier is one of only four Irish artists in the Top 100 singles...
Lily Wood and Robin Schultz have blasted into the No.1 slot in the Irish singles charts, with the infectious pop track, ‘Prayer in C’.
The track was originally released by the Israeli-French duo Lily Wood, in 2010, on the album Invisible Friends. This year, it was remixed by the German producer Robin Schultz and released under the handle of Lily Wood, The Prick and Robin Schultz. It has since gone to No.1 in charts all over Europe, including Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Greece and Sweden among others. Ireland had remained relatively unmoved until this week, when it shot from N.29 to No.1. The single was still outside the top 100 in the UK last week, though that is likely to change dramatically when the new charts are released on Monday.
Here, it pushed Milky Chance’s ‘Stolen Dance’ – which drops to No.2 – off the top spot. Meanwhile Taylor Swift has also made a charge, racing from No.14 to No.3. Another big mover is Ariana Grande, whose ‘Break Free’ (featuring Zedd) shoots from No.42 to No.9.
The highest new entrants are Maroon 5, whose ‘Maps’ debuts at No.5. The top Irish single is Hozier’s ‘Take Me To The Church’, which remains at No.32 after an astonishing 48 weeks in the charts. With tracks at No. 47 (’Sedated’) and No. 50 (‘From Eden’), he is one of only four Irish artists in the top 100 – the others being Kodaline, Sinéad O’Connor and Walking On Cars.

It is an extraordinary statistic, which provides a real challenge to Irish radio stations and asks the question: si Irish music again being ignored by the Irish broadcast media?
