The Australians' self-titled debut knocks Ed Sheeran down to second place.
Another week brings another Irish music chart and another opening week number one. After Ed Sheeran grabbed the top spot in his first week on the charts with X last week, 5 Seconds Of Summer followed suit with their self-titled album.
The band has seen their popularity in Ireland skyrocket after joining One Direction for a series of Croke Park gigs back in May, and the association with the rabidly popular boy band no doubt played a factor in the band's impressive debut. 5 Seconds Of Summer's sparkling numbers came at the expense of one Mr. Ed Sheeran. Sheeran can take solace in the fact that X is doing incredible worldwide, taking the number one spot in the American charts while already going Gold in Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
Taking third place is the suddenly controversial Garth Brooks as his 2007 career-spanning release The Ultimate Hits remains in the top three as fans await the outcome of his Croke Park concert saga. While Brooks could be performing in Ireland five times, twice or not at all, Coldplay have managed to hold the fourth spot without hinting at anything at all. Their latest album Ghost Stories remains one of the best selling albums of the summer. Rounding out the top five is another high profile summer release in Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour, as the Londoners debut has shown staying power at the top of the charts ahead of his Longitude set July 19.

The rest of the top ten consists of Dubliners Kodaline, who move up a spot to six as they get set to open for Kings Of Leon tonight at Marlay Park. Seventh place is David Gray, whose tenth album Mutineers makes it debut as the singer gets set to perform July 6 t the Groove Festival. in the eighth spot is Ultraviolence by Lana Del Rey, who will also be making an Irish appearance July 15 Live At The Marquee. Number nine is Arcade Fire who have seen a rise in sales of Reflektor after their Marlay Park show last week. Rounding out the top ten is Dublin's own Imelda May as Tribal continues to receive support after her Dublin and Cork shows.
Be sure to check back on the charts next week, where we'll see how much influence Beverly, Brian Eno and Karl Hyde, and Mark Kozelek's recent releases have on the charts.
