Leading the Irish charge are Swords four-piece Kodaline, a band whose Electric Picnic slot should be the jewel in a year that saw them crowned the country’s hottest new pop-rock act. After EP 2012, the band tweeted their astonishment at how many people turned up for their set – this time around they’ll be in little doubt that the widescreen, anthemic likes of ‘High Hopes’ and ‘All I Want’ will attract the masses. Prior to the release of In A Perfect World, singer Stephen Garrigan told Hot Press: “It’ll be interesting to see what songs people like, what songs really affect people. We still don’t know what to expect.” They arrive in Stradbally as Irish album charttoppers, with that debut LP doing great business internationally too – only heavy hitters Kanye West and Black Sabbath could keep them from No. 1 in the UK.
