Patrick McCarron lives in the metropolis that is Co. Monaghan... He is currently trying to survive studying for the Leaving Cert. His interests vary from dog walking to writing poetry. His goal in life is to experience as much as possible – and to meet as many people as he can along the way. “I don’t have all of the answers,” he says, “but as Seamus Heaney said ‘If you have the words, there's always a chance that you'll find the way’.”
And now for Patrick’s WRITE HERE, WRITE NOW entry ...
Social media vs The people
Self-worth is now graduated,
By likes or shares or views.
Young people constantly frustrated,
fed lies by so called “fake news”.
Do you actually realise your,
An invention based on vanity.
Ruining all our self esteem,
Contributing to insanity.
Depression clearly on the rise,
We wonder how and why?
I ask you people open your eyes,
And I will testify.
That yes it is a blessing,
But a dangerous game to play.
That it is oppressing,
In a silent sort of way.
I love my social media,
But hate it all the same.
A complicated relationship,
That fills my heart with shame.
The verdict is condemning,
Social media has gotten life.
For committing murder,
Without a gun or knife.
