American songwriter and singer, Bonny "Mack" Rice has died at the age of 82. He passed away on June 27 in his home in Detroit. He was best known for his song 'Mustang Sally'.
'Mustang Sally' was covered by many artists. It became a chart hit for Wilson Pickett (picutred) in 1967. Rice himself recorded and released the song in 1965. A version of the track was also performed by The Commitments. Rice's songs were covered and performed by some of music's biggest names including Bruce Springsteen, Buddy Guy, The Blues Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Tina Turner.
Rice's greatest success came as a songwriter. Rice also released his first full length studio album in 1992 entitled Right Now. After he lost inspiration for songwriting he returned to Detroit and ran an asphalt company. He was diagnosed with Alzheimers several years before his death.
