Could it be the end of the road for Bryan, Shane, Mark, Nicky and Kian?
Rumours are rife that the most successful boy band of all time might be about to announce their imminent break-up. A press conference will be held in Dublin tomorrow , Tuesday March 9, where members of the band are expected to make an important announcement.
"I have no idea what they're planning to announce," said a spokesman for Westlife's record company BMG (Ireland). "We actually know very little about it. They're being very tight-lipped about everything at the moment."
It's not the first time such rumours have done the rounds. Many thought they would go their separate ways on the release of their Greatest Hits album in 2002. However they bounced back with a new album Turnaround, which spawned the singles 'Mandy' and current hit 'Obvious'.
Comments one industry insider: "If they do announce tomorrow that they're splitting or taking a break, it's bound to boost tickets sales for their upcoming tour which have been unusually sluggish. With the first date on March 29, the cynic in me wonders if that's an important factor."
According to Ticketmaster, none of the band's seven shows in Belfast and four shows in Birmingham have sold-out. Tickets also remain available for shows in Glasgow and Dublin – something that would have been unthinkable a couple of years ago.
