Hi Jimmy, sit down beside me. I think it’s time for a little talk. You see, very soon you’ll notice some weird changes in your life – your voice will change, you’ll get hair where you never had hair before, you’ll suddenly start noticing girls (or boys), and you’ll probably find you’re fronting an anguished post-punk/emo/indie band. Don’t worry, this is only natural.
Back in the late ‘90s I was genuinely concerned that guitar music was dying out for good. Now it seems that not being in an indie band when in your late teens or early twenties is seen by psychologists as a form of developmental delay. Indeed you can’t fly-tip nowadays without hitting another four-piece guitar band. We Were Promised Jetpacks is one such combo. Wiry, emotional, post-punk music, with tight driving rhythm sections, crescendoing choruses and anguished, Scottish-accented vocal deliveries, it’s not hugely original or anything, but it’s nothing to worry about.
Key Track: ‘This is my House this is my Home’
