The English writer was best known for his seminal classic novel ‘Watership Down’ published in 1972, which sold over 10 million copies, as well as ‘The Plague Dogs’.
‘Watership Down’ was made into a very popular feature-length cartoon and included Art Garfunkel’s tearjerker hit song ‘Bright Eyes’.

The author’s daughter Juliet Johnston said her father had been “ailing for some time” but “died peacefully” on Christmas Eve.
Speaking this evening on BBC Radio 4, Juliet Johnston revealed that she had a long heart-to-heart conversation with him on his deathbed the night before he passed away.
“I assured him that he was much loved, that he had done great work, that many people loved his books,” she said.
