The third installment in the acclaimed Transatlantik series sees no deviation from the high quality, deeply chilled standards of its predecessors.
The third installment in the acclaimed Transatlantik series sees no deviation from the high quality, deeply chilled standards of its predecessors. Certainly, there's often a danger that the 'jazz with everything please' strain of dance music sometimes lapses into self-indulgence, but there isn't a dud track here. Highlights include the lush textures of Fresh Moods' 'Rhythmbreeze', underrated ambient techno by A Reminiscent Drive, filled with dreamy strings and hum-along brass riffs, the mournful jazz of Chaser's 'Changing Minds', Danmass' uplifting yet understated 'Roast', and the organic, Latino tinged 'Our Girl In Havana' courtesy of Kings Of The Wild Frontier. There's also enough diversity here – contrast the break beat mid-tempo techno of Marzipan & Mustard to Bang Bang's elegant 'Tchin Tchin' – to ensure the compilation never sounds samey and rises above the proliferation of predominantly bland Ibiza chill-out compilations.
