Punk's not dead at Fibber Magee's
The Winter Of Our Malcontents is the second volume of a series of live recordings made at Fibber Magee’s in Dublin and features 11 Irish punk bands (including the likes of Liz Is Evil, Paranoid Visions and Droppin’ Bombs) performing two tracks each. Standouts have to be the riff-tastic Mouthpiece and the angry as an open wound ‘To Hell’ by Droppin’ Bombs, and the collection as a whole is a great introduction to what is a still vibrant scene. While admittedly the oi-stylings of Ructions (for example) mightn’t be to everyone’s taste, this reviewer is more than a bit partial to the subtle as a headbutt genre; even if you’re a fair-weather fan you’ll find plenty of excitement on The Winter Of Our Malcontents as it’s a fine addition to the series.
Key Track: ‘To Hell’
