Sadly, it's happening with government approval...
Tickets for U2’s four-night Dublin 3Arena run sold-out this morning in under twenty minutes.
A sizeable chunk of them have ended up on the likes of Viagogo, the ‘secondary’ site berated by Ed Sheeran for selling tickets to his Prince’s Trust cancer charity fundraiser at vastly inflated prices.
The Swiss company, who received IDA support to set up a base in Limerick – then Minister for Jobs, Richard Bruton, did the ribbon-cutting – had just under 20,000 looking for tickets at 9.05am. They started off at €298 and quickly rose to €592 for a Lower Tier ticket on the opening Monday.
Those who managed to beat the brokers will be treated to a cutting-edge show, with a new super hi-res LED screen nine times the resolution of the one deployed in the 3Arena in 2015.
U2’s headline-grabbing appearance and dissing of The Donald at the Grammys – “Blessed are the shithole countries, for they gave us the American dream,” shouted Bono through a Stars ‘n’ Stripes megaphone – suggests that this could be their most overtly political tour in years.
