U2 was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in a memorable ceremony held in New York
Rock 'n' Roll’s 50th anniversary saw Ireland’s own U2 voted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame its first year on the ballot.
It was a touching moment, with Bruce Springsteen serving as U2’s inductor after being ushered into the Hall of Fame himself by Bono six years earlier.
Springsteen praised the band’s accomplishment, saying, “This was a band that wanted to lay claim to this world and the next one, too.”
The March 14th soirée took place in New York’s chic Waldorf Astoria Hotel and was attended by such celebrity A-listers as Richard Gere, Cameron Diaz, Mariah Carey and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Also inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame were Buddy Guy, The Pretenders, The O’Jays and Percy Sledge, who performed such classics as 'For the Love of Money' and 'When a Man Loves a Woman'.
Performances had attendees like Justin Timberlake on their feet, saying the music “made you think, made you feel, made you dance and even made you make love, all at the same time.”
And time has certainly been good to the Irish trailblazers who started out in 1977. With its incredible staying power, U2 remain as popular today as ever. The group, who also picked up three Grammy Awards in February, will be taking time out of 'ceremonial duties' from March 28 when they embark on their much anticipated world tour.
