U2 have officially denied reports that they’ve pushed back the release of their new album to 2015 and claims that surfaced in certain tabloids that they’re on the verge of splitting.
There’s been no big statement, just the relaying by a spokesperson to Hot Press that, “The U2 album is planned for this year. It’s still on track and touring plans haven’t been confirmed yet.”
Billboard claimed last Friday that, with the band still in the studio, there’d be no new record until 2015. As a consequence, the magazine claimed, a Live Nation-booked world tour due to blast-off in September had also been postponed until the New Year.
Bono commented to the BBC’s Zane Lowe last month that the recording of the follow-up to 2009’s No Line On The Horizon is still on-going.
“We're here in this great nation, in this capital, in some dank basement,” he said. “Where I'm calling from, as we speak, there were mice spotted earlier. We call it the Oil Rig.
“With U2, our album isn’t finished until it’s in the stores. It’s tricky getting us four boys across the line. We don’t just put albums out. We do think about it.”
Hot Press understands that there is currently a clear focus within the camp on finishing the record.
It’s worth noting that the 360 Tour was delayed because No Line On The Horizon wasn’t ready for its original target date – and went on to become the highest-grossing rock road trip of all-time with over $735 million’s worth of tickets sold.
The Billboard report suggested that U2 are currently working on this side of the Atlantic with the man behind Adele’s extraordinary rise to the top of the pop pile, Paul Epworth, who’s already done a remix of the Golden Globe-winning ‘Ordinary Love’ for them.
