The album will be a companion piece to 2014's Songs of Innocence.
Hot on the heels of last year's world tour, the biggest rock band in the world have revealed that they were recording their forthcoming album in between shows.
In an earlier interview with Hot Press, The Edge spoke of the band's intention to finish the recording of the album early in the new year stating "we’re really determined to get it finished early in the New Year. That would be our plan: try to finish it as quickly as possible in the New Year and get it out when it seems like the right moment."
Comparing it to Zooropa, The Edge has spoken to Q about how the momentum of the album is similar in process to their 1993 collection. Although maybe not following in the sound of that period, The Edge claimed that versatile producer Brian Eno wished for the band to follow their early nineties sound for their latest offering.
The Edge claimed that Eno "would love to see us making albums a bit more like that. Where we go, 'You know what? We're not going to second-guess any of this. Let's just go for it.' I think there's a quality you get when there's a certain momentum to the process."

Bono has recently stated that he has written one song on the album inspired by the recent atrocities in Paris. Also of inspiration for the lead singer is the recent cycling accident of which Bono states, "The gift of it was that I had time to write while in the mentality that you get to at the end of an album. There is a reason why all the great groups made their best albums while in and around touring, because the ideas have to come out of your head."
The album's title, as well as that of its predecessor, comes from Bono's love of William Blake's 1789 poetry compilation Songs Of Innocence And Experience.
