Although under constant review, the word from the U2 camp is that they are still planning to go ahead with the return visit of the Elevation tour to North America.
Kicking off at Notre Dame University on October 10th, the trek takes in Montreal, Hamilton, Chicago, Baltimore, New York, East Rutherford, Providence, Philadelphia, Austin, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles and Oakland before winding up at the Las Vegas NV Thomas & Mack Center on November 18th.
Support duties are variously taken care of by Garbage (October 10th to 24th), Stereophonics (October 28th to November 2nd) and No Doubt (November 5th to 18th).
Fans are being encouraged to make a donation to the Red Cross.
“Like everyone else we are in shock at the events in the US,” say the band. “The people of the US have always been close to U2 and we extend our sympathy and condolences to all those affected. If you have friends or family who have been touched by this tragedy we are thinking of you.

“If you are looking for an immediate and effective way of helping at this time you can make a donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Donations can be made via Amazon.com which is waiving its usual fee.”
Meanwhile, the Bono-driven charity single, ‘What’s Going On’, is set for November 1st release. Originally intended as an awareness raiser for World AIDS Day, 50% of the proceeds will now be going to the victims of the American terrorist attacks. The five versions of the classic Marvin Gaye song include a Jermaine Dupri ‘main mix’ and Fred Durst ‘rock mix’. As for the all-star band, that features Christina Aguilera, Amir of The Roots, Backstreet Boys, Mary J. Blige, Destiny’s Child, Eve, Limp Bizkit, Nelly Furtado, Ja Rule, Savage Garden, Wyclef Jean, Alicia Keys, Aaron Lewis of Staind, Lil’ Kim, Jennifer Lopez, Nas, Nelly, N’Sync, P Diddy, Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani and Michael Stipe.
